Hi,

I see a couple used Toppolas in Europe - would anyone even consider shipping one to the US?

I live in California and have a 1999 Saab 93 hatchback that I'd like to put a Toppola onto. Any clues if I can get a new or used one on this side of the pond?

Dear Jason,
I have a Toppola fitted on a similar Saab 9.3 Diesel 2001. It is great for camping in warm climate when you can spend most of the time outside the Toppola. It's perfect to sleep in, but very small to sit inside. To prepair food is like cooking in a phone booth. The weight incl necessary camping equipment will be as much as 250 kg. It will not be a problem when you drive, but you may need enforced suspension springs in the rear (hard to find). With 2 persons + Toppola we are over 1910 kg already. Check the regulations for campers in your state, to ensure it's legal to use a Toppola on yor Saab.
If you want to buy a shell and do the interior yourself, contact the web master of this web site toppola@tornefjell.se . He can produce a Toppola for you. Shipping it to your continent may be just too expensive to be worth the effort. But if you succeed you will have a true collector's item to be proud of. Thanks a lot! Hopefully this will help someone else. I sold my Saab at the end of last year but hope to get a teardrop trailer for my Audi.
